I'm sorry, but I can't make it then!

Hi,

My son has just finished his GCSEs and to his credit, got himself a job shortly after his last exam. At his interview the manager gave him some homework to do in preparation for his second interview, which he started as soon as he got home.

However, his younger brother had other plans and wanted him to go to the local skate park. He told his brother politely, but firmly, "get out of my room, I've got work to do!" (well, maybe not as polite as that, but you get the idea).

You can imagine how I felt when I heard him; on the one hand "proud" that he was applying himself, but on the other hand, quite chastened, thinking about the times I had done something or said something similar.   It's quite surprising what we all do (work-wise) and the hours we put into our businesses, but I guess there's always a cost - and that's always our time.
There are so many latest and greatest methods or fads for organising our lives, but the reality is that we want our businesses to be as self-sufficient as possible so we can luxuriate in a pool of more time. What we do with that time is up to us because we've earned it.

When we reminisce about how small our children were or, time flying by, maybe its "time" to look at what we do a little differently.

Making your business more efficient is only the tip of the iceberg, when planning to create more "time" is the goal.

Something that sticks in my mind is what we're told by sales people. They always tell us how great the product is, the features, attributes and benefits (has, does, means!), but all we want to know is how much time it will it create for us.

I suppose for me, any ROI ultimately must have a final statistic or calculation that equals "Time Saved". I know I can bank that and its priceless.

Bye for now
